  • Book chapter (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This collection assembles studies that draw on a variety of approaches to the timely subject of immigrants’ integration into labour markets and societies. Its aim is to make a contribution to migration and integration research in general and management and organisation studies in particular. The authors include both conceptual reasoning and their own fieldwork to address the issues related to the processes of organising integration in practice, and their consequences—for immigrants and for organisers. The contributors are both experienced and younger scholars from various fields of social sciences. In their texts, they play with well-known concepts and ideas, but also introduce new ideas and metaphors, connecting migration and integration phenomena to the trials and tribulations of contemporary organising. Many different voices are heard in the stories told—voices of refugees, immigrants, public officials, private entrepreneurs, managers, and volunteers. Yet they all focus on processes, not on structures; on organising rather than on organisations—because integration may take place within as well as outside formal organisations.

  • Organising immigrants' integration - Practices and Consequences in Labour Markets and Societies
  • 2023
  • Editorial collection (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This collection of field studies offers novel insights into the issues of migration and integration of immigrants. The focus of the chapters is on actions, processes, and complexity of organising practices, in contrast to more policy-oriented works. The contributors address vital questions: How is the labour market integration of refugees and other immigrants being organised in practice? What ideas of integration give rise to, and are promoted by contemporary integration initiatives? And what are the effects of these integration initiatives – on immigrants’ lives, and on their labour market integration in terms of diversity, gender, and power relations? With contributions highlighting the importance of coordination and collaboration for the successful organising of integration, this book should be of interest to researchers and advanced students from the fields of management and organisation studies, public administration and management, migration and integration studies, sociology, cultural studies and science and technology studies. It should also interest professionals and policymakers working with integration who face the challenges described here in their daily work.

  • Organisering kring hot och risk
  • 2007
  • Book (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Boundary stories: Constructing the Validation Centre in West Sweden
  • 2011
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The role of stories in organizing has traditionally been examined within the context of specific organizations, communities of practice, or social worlds. The study reported here describes the establishment in West Sweden of a centre for developing methods that allow for the recognition of prior learning in people seeking employment. In the report, we highlight the role of stories and storytelling in coordination and organizing between and among organizations, but also between and among and social worlds. We refer to such stories as boundary stories, and argue that they are not only the means for creating a shared understanding and facilitating joint actions among a number of public and private organizations, but that they also help to hide potential conflicts, paradoxes, and contradictions among actors.
